Open Question: Could any one help me answer these questions please!!! I need help!?
1. As Final Corporation approaches its year-end, the CFO is concerned that Net Cash Flow from Operations will appear to have a negative balance. A review of the general ledger account shows that the company has the following issues:
• Accounts receivables balance has increased due to the slow economic situation.
• Accounts payable balance has increased as a result of the company’s cash shortage.
• Most importantly, inventory has increased dramatically. The company expected an increase sales this year and made contracts to purchase inventory that they could not cancel.
The CFO has decided to improve the company’s cash flow position by selling off some investments at a substantial gain, pay off liabilities, and have a nice net increase in cash. The company had plans to used these investments to retire corporate bonds in the following year but could continue carrying the bonds without penalty.
Should the CFO employ this action?
2. Joseph Needier, the CEO of Netcomm Inc., was reviewing the financial statements for the first three months of the year. He saw that sales and net income were lower than projected. Concerned with the effects on stock price and the reaction of shareholders, Needier requested a meeting of his senior management.
At the meeting, Needier suggested that the company record projected sales for the second quarter as receivables in the first quarter, therefore, increasing sales and net income.
