Resolved Question: Was communism just a big lie to concentrate all of the people’s wealth into the hands of the government…?
…so that they can later place them into the hands of the pre-selected few (who probably planned this takeover and system of government in the first place)? Farm land was stolen from the people who were then forced to work on the land that was no longer theirs. Private wealth (which included commodities like gold) became the property of the State, not public shared wealth. Is this what always happens whenever a successful and self-reliant middle class starts to grow and prosper–a violent coup and change of a system that people had faithfully played by and adjusted to?
beren: But wasn’t a small middle class beginning to grow and prosper too?
Russia here looked like a successful country full of hope and promise. Sad.

It looks like it went from being a modern and progressive country to a regressive and backward country after communism!
From those pictures it looks like people from all different classes looking content!
It doesn’t look like royalty and the aristocracy were the only prosperous ones. It looks like their took care of their large and small cities and their people. Unlike now. Now crime and corruption rules!

Open Question: Can Republican’s show me one country in ‘Socialist’ Europe that is not based on Capitalistic principles?
Now…Republicans on here don’t seem to understand the definition of Capitalism:

“an economic system in which investment in and ownership of the means of production, distribution, and exchange of wealth is made and maintained chiefly by private individuals or corporations, esp. as contrasted to cooperatively or state-owned means of wealth.”

http://dictionary.reference.com/dic?q=capitalism&search=search

Can someone give me the name of one country that isn’t based on these principles? Meaning, majority of their economic system is based on government operations.
Greg: Democrats don’t want bigger government, they want government that WORKS.

Why didn’t you speak up when President Bush expanded government the most since LBJ?

http://www.cato.org/pub_display.php?pub_id=3750

Also, why is military not considered part of government spending? Why should this country be responsible for policing the world???????? Don’t you think it’s about time that we focus on defending America instead of expanding abroad??

We need to cut foreign military expenses, but whenever you suggest cutting military the Republicans start screaming…like as if you just cursed Jesus or something.

Resolved Question: Socialism or Capitalism? Which appeals most to you…?
and which of these is most descriptive of where you live? Thanks.

Definitions to help you with answer:

SOCIALISM: An economic and political system in which private property is abolished and the means of production (i.e., capital and land) are collectively owned and operated by the community as a whole in order to advance the interests of all. In Marxist ideology, socialism is considered an intermediate stage in the inevitable transformation of capitalism into communism. A socialist society is envisioned as being characterized by the dictatorship of the proletariat; the existence of a high degree of cooperation and equality; and the absence of discrimination, poverty, exploitation, and war. With the non-existence of private ownership, the private profit motive is eliminated from economic life. Consequently, market forces do not play a role in organizing the process of production. Instead, large-scale government planning is employed to ensure the harmonious operation of the process of production.

CAPITALISM: A socio-economic system characterized by private initiative and the private ownership of factors of production. In such a system individuals have the right to own and use wealth to earn income and to sell and purchase labor for wages. Furthermore, capitalism is predicated on a relative absence of governmental control of the economy. The function of regulating the economy is achieved largely through the operation of market forces, whereby the price mechanism acts as a signalling system which determines the allocation of resources and their uses.

I prefer capitalism.
Thanks for the answers – no one stated which system was in place where they lived….or should it be intuitively obvious?…
