Open Question: Do you think this is a good social studies 5th grade essay on Jamestown?
Jamestown

Did you know that Jamestown started in the middle of a swamp four hundred years ago – and still is alive? Well, that’s the truth. Jamestown was a struggle to obtain and had both advantages and disadvantages. For example, once Jamestown survived a loss of seventy colonists! In 1606 a charter was given to a company to own a colony to gain gold and wealth for England. The very long lasting colony was overall successful.
England is watching as their enemy Spain is gaining more and more wealth. Starting American colonies gained Spain gold, while England also wanted part of it. A group called the “Virginia Company of London” attempted to make a colony. This was England’s second attempt They received a charter to create the colony from King James 1 in hopes they will bring England gold and wealth. In 1607 three ships with supplies and colonists including John Smith- the Godspeed, the Susan Constant, and the Discovery – travelled until they reached a spot they thought was perfect. The spot was enclosed, great protection and invisibility against intruders. Also, there were trees for tying the ships up. They soon after realized their mistake. The land was swampy and the air contained swarms of disease spreading mosquitoes. Also, the water was unhealthy; it caused sickness and death. They built up a fort and created James Fort, which was later changed to Jamestown.
The colonists of James Fort soon figured that improvements were essential to keep the colony alive. Lack of water and lack of food – their food was spoiled and rats infested their corn – was the cause of this guess. The population dropped seventy colonists from the arrival. A major improvement was the election of John Smith. At the time, someone thought they struck gold and people wasted time digging for nothing. When John Smith was elected he made “Those who do not work do not eat.” This meant everybody had to do work such as construction dens, fishing in James River nearby, and building wells for water. This caused a great benefit for the colony. Another improvement began when on an exploration they discovered a confederacy of thirty Indian tribes. The leader Chief Powhatan communicated with John Smith, who was the current leader. A relationship of trade slowly began with exchange of many varieties of food including oysters, fish, corn, beans, venison, bread, wheat, and other supplies. This played a role of preserving the colony. Also the daughter of Chief Powhatan, Pocahontas, donated food in times of starvation and visited often. John Smith learned Powhatan language in order to ask to corn. Another improvement occurred when Smith fled from an accident. Without Smith and harsh climates that colonists weren’t adjusted to, the colony worsened. But before the colony fell apart from retreating colonists, Lord De La Warre forced them back. They returned and Lord De La Warre helped create a city with rows of houses and church, now names Jamestown.

Open Question: Is China Republican? (saving, capitalism, wealth building)?
China seems to represent many of the core econonmic principles of Republicans.

Saving, capitalism, and then wealth building.

Is this why China is going to overtake us?
Economic principles, not societal principles or law. You moron.

Open Question: Who sings this song????
If I had my own world
I’d fill it with wealth and desire
Aglorious past to admire
And voices of kids out walking, dogs, birds, planes, trees and cars
If I had my own world
I’d love it for all that’s inside it
There’d be no more wars death or riots, there’d be no more police packed parking lots, guns, bombs sounding off,
If I had my own world
I’d build you an empire
From here to the far lands
To spread love like violence
If I had my own world
I’d build you an empire
From here to the far lands
To spread love like violence

Let me feel you carry you higher
Watch our words spread hope like fire
Secret crowds rise up and gather
Hear your voices sing back louder

If I had my own world
I’d show you the life that’s inside it
The way that it glows when you find it
The way it survives with it’s familys, friends or enemys
Let’s make this the new world
I swear you can go if you’d want to
I know that you have that within you
Inventing the first clean and usuable, God’s greatest miracle
If I had my own world
I’d build you an empire
From here to the far lands
To spread love like violence
If I had my own world
I’d build you an empire
From here to the far wlands
To spread love like violence

Let me feel you carry you higher
Watch our words spread hope like fire
Secret crowds rise up and gather
Hear your voices sing back louder
Also, what year did it come out?
